Bart Starr

Bart Starr’s accomplishments as quarterback for the Green Bay Packers were enough to solidify his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, his time and work away from the football field are just even more praiseworthy.

At the stadium they told us that the very first year Lombardi coached he got to the last game before the championship, and lost. after that game he told all the players “this is the last playoff game you’ll ever lose. and he was right, they went 9-1 won 5 championships and 2 super bowls legendary.

Unselfish. a true gentleman and a champion 5 times over. Maybe that jerk who the Packers sent to New York can learn something from Bart about class. Hey Brad Childress, how do ya like coaching a hillbilly who is only ever thinking of himself?

He’s my cousin…but I’ve never met him. Mom has, when they were both younger. I didn’t know it was cool until I was doing my family tree stuff in 6th grade or somewhere around there…all the boys gasped in shock!!! :) Until then, I really had to clue…

True….Lombardi did NOT draft Starr. He was already there win Vince arrived…That credit should go to scout Jerry Vanessi. He also drafted Nitschke, J Kramer, Gregg, Taylor, Hornung, Thurston, R Kramer {TE} Hanner, Currie. and Ringo.

Sadly, he did not live to see the fruits of his labor as he died in 1961 at age 33 of cancer.

Maybe the best scout the Pack has ever had and one of the best in NFL history…

Bart Starr was a great QB, one of my favorites back then, even though I was a Bear fan. As a kid, I can remember being at Wrigley and watching the ‘horror’ of one of his patented 3/1 long passes going all the way for a TD into the end zone where we sat.

But he was fortunate to play on a team and system that was a winning machine, with a great defense and running game, and a completely driven coach. Nonetheless, it was great watching him play, I loved his passing touch!

I hate to admit it but 5 world championships is better than any quarterback. Maybe Tom Brady can tie or beat him all records fall. But look at all he has won not his stats. Remarkable.

    I never said he did.

  21. boxer59 says:

Lombardi did not join the Packers until 1959. He had nothing to do with drafting Bart Starr.

  24. rygasewicz says:

You are right. Lombardi brought out the best in every player. Nitchski was drafted as a full back. Washed out there. Became a middle linebacker and the rest is history.
