The Beginning Of The Marvelous History Of The Green Bay Packers

Everything started in August 11, 1919 where a group of husky young players, called together by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun, assembled in the grimy editorial room of the old Green Bay Press-Gazette building on Cherry Street and organized a football team. They didn’t know it, yet that was the beginning of the marvelous history of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers were granted a membership of the new National Football League in 1921.

Today Green Bay Packers are known as the 3rd oldest team in pro football. The history of the Green Bay Packers team is one of struggle and perseverance. Until rather recently, monetary survival off the field and playing stability on the field was an on-going fight. The Packers’ record has been distributed with periods of both the highest success and the deepest depths of defeat.

Fortunately Green Bay Packers have won twelve league championships more than any other team in the NFL including nine NFL Championships prior to the Super Bowl era and the three Super Bowl championships in 1967 (Super Bowl I), 1968 (Super Bowl II) and 1996 (Super Bowl XXXI). Green Bay Packers Team has a historic rivalry with the Chicago Bears, whom they have played in over 170 games. Also the team share a fierce rivalry with the Minnesota Vikings, who reside in the NFC North along with the Green Bay Packers. The Dallas Cowboys have been also known as the Green Bay Packers largest football playoff rivals since after the Packers defeated them in the famous Ice Bowl.

Green Bay is still a city of less than 100,000 and is viewed as sort of a sports “dinosaur” as the home of the Packers is the only remaining small city in the big-city of professional sports franchises. But Green Bay is unique as the team is the only community-owned non-profit organization in the NFL. From 1937 to 1994 the Packers played their home games in only 2 cities while five of their eight home games were played in Green Bay’s Lambeau Field and the remaining three is at the Milwaukee County Stadium in Milwaukee. Even today the Green Bay Packers play exclusively in Lambeau Field.

Off the football field, the Green Bay Packers are now on the rise and will be looking to challenge for the NFC North title next seasons. The team are now financially sound and the glory years are back. With such a globalized fan base the Packers games and the Packers Tickets are never lacking.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers is one of the American football teams, and based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The team is a member of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL) and is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL.

The Packers is the last vestige of “small town teams” that were once common in the NFL during the 1920s and 1930s. The team was founded by Earl “Curly” Lambeau (the Lambeau Field was named after him) and George Whitney Calhoun in 1919.

The Green Bay Packers traced its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. In 1919 and 1920 the Packers competed as a semi-professional football team against clubs from around Wisconsin and the Midwest. They joined the American Professional Football Association (APFA) in 1921, the forerunner to what is known today as the National Football League (NFL).

The team has won twelve league championships (more than any other team in the NFL) including nine NFL Championships prior to the Super Bowl era and three Super Bowl victories in 1967 (Super Bowl I), 1968 (Super Bowl II) and 1997 (Super Bowl XXXI). The team has a fierce rivalry with the Chicago Bears, whom they have played in over 170 games. The Packers also share a historic rivalry with the Minnesota Vikings, who reside in the NFC North along with the Packers, and the Dallas Cowboys who have historically been known as the Packers largest playoff rivals after the Packers defeated them in the famous Ice Bowl.

The Packers claim 12 World Championships, the most in the NFL. The first three were decided by league standing, the next six by the NFL Title Game, and the final three by Super Bowl victories. The Packers are also the only team to win three straight NFL titles, having accomplished this twice (1929–1931 and 1965–67).
